The Building Division, which includes permitting and inspections and contractor registration, is responsible for making sure that all new or improved structures meet state building codes and local ordinance requirements.
Work is divided into three major activities: permit processing, plans examination, and construction inspection. Plans are examined to ensure all construction meets the requirements of codes, regulations, and other ordinances. Field inspections are conducted to assure all new improvements are being constructed in accordance with approved plans and all applicable construction codes.
The Planning Division is responsible for both long range and short range planning functions. Planning maintains and updates the city’s Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Regulations.
All development plans are reviewed to assure conformity with these two guiding documents. Applications submitted to the Planning Board for consideration include, but are not limited to:
- Future Land Use amendments
- Plat plans
- Subdivision review
- Zoning changes
