Project Details
In 2010 CRG Architects were awarded a Building Improvement Grant to renovate the existing bathroom in 216 Street Johns Avenue. The building, being approximately 90 years old, is in excellent condition. Some of the historic character of the building still remains even though the building has been renovated in the past. The grant was awarded by the Community Redevelopment Agency to renovate the bathroom on the condition that the applicant pay 50% of the total project cost.
Phase I of the project renovated the existing non-compliant restroom facility into a fully ADA-compliant restroom with new plumbing fixtures, tile floor, walls, and finishes. This renovation tripled the size of the existing bathroom and eliminated the raised platform. Phase II of the project replaced the 23-year old, inefficient a/c system with a new high efficiency air-to-air heat pump system. Additional building insulation was also added. These improvements have added many more years of useful life to this old building.
At completion the total project cost came to $19,630, with the applicant contributing $9,815.
