Volunteer Boards and Committees 

Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA):

Established in 1983, the City of Palatka formed the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) to oversee redevelopment efforts in the Downtown Palatka Area. This area is divided into three Tax Increment Finance (TIF) Districts: the Central, North, and South Districts. The board includes a member of the Palatka City Commission, a representative from the Putnam County Commission, and a dedicated volunteer from the community.

Airport Advisory Board:

The Airport Advisory Board provides guidance to the City and Airport Managers regarding the operations of the City of Palatka’s Municipal Airport, known as Lt. Jasper Kennedy “Kay” Larkin Field (28J).

Historic Preservation Board:

The Historic Preservation Board is responsible for reviewing proposed changes, renovations, or demolitions of historic structures and properties within Palatka’s historic districts. 

Library Board:

The Library Board is a Putnam County Board, with four seats appointed by the City. This board plays a crucial role in setting policies and offering advice on the budget for county libraries.

City Police and Firefighter and General Employee Pension Boards:

These boards are tasked with directing and reviewing investments on behalf of the City of Palatka’s pension boards, benefiting police officers, firefighters, and general city employees.

Palatka Housing Authority Board:

The Palatka Housing Authority Board is composed of members appointed by the Palatka City Commission, responsible for overseeing the Palatka Housing Authority.

Planning Board:

The Planning Board is the designated land planning agency of the City. Preference in people appointed to this committee is given to those who either reside within the city limits or have a business located within the city limits and serve three-year terms. They also oversee specific sections of the Palatka Municipal Code, particularly those related to land use, zoning regulations, and the issuance of variances.

Putnam County Better Place Plan Oversight Committee:

The City of Palatka appoints one representative to the Putnam County committee responsible for overseeing the allocation of Better Place Grant funds.

Tree Committee:

The Tree Committee convenes annually to plan the City’s Arbor Day events, promoting the importance of trees in Palatka.

Palatka Zoning Board of Appeals:

The primary function of the Zoning Board of Appeals is to hear appeals regarding decisions made by the City Planning Department and grant variances.
