City of Palatka Resurfacing Project on St. Johns Avenue
The City of Palatka is beginning a major project on St. Johns Avenue from 11th Street to 4th Street to repair, resurface, and improve the road. This project, which involves multiple coordinated efforts by various contractors, will be carried out over the coming months, is the City part of a multi-million dollar improvement project in partnership with Putnam County, and the Florida Department of Transportation
Update: Due to a scheduling conflict, the start of the City of Palatka’s St. Johns Avenue road milling and resurfacing, originally scheduled for Sunday, July 7, has been delayed until Sunday, July 21. This delay will also affect the reinstallation of streetlight in-ground indicators at the 9th and 11th Streets intersections on St. Johns Avenue.
Below are the detailed activities and schedules for the City’s part of the project:
Depression Repairs on 4th and 11th Streets
Schedule: Started June 10th work expected to take 2 weeks.
Description: The project eliminates deteriorating underground structures and reconstructs the road base.
Impact: The impact will only be localized to excavated areas, with no expected traffic closures.
Curb, Driveway, and Sidewalk Repairs
Schedule: Started June 13th work expected to take 2 weeks.
Description: The repairs aim to create a hard curb line in preparation for resurfacing and address curbs with poor drainage at specific locations.
Impact: Localized impact to work areas, with no road closures anticipated.
Sewer Lining and Lateral Inspections
Schedule: Started June 13th work expected to take 2 weeks.
Description: Video inspections of laterals off the sewer main will be conducted, with clean-outs installed if needed. Sewer pipes will be reinforced by lining them with durable material.
Impact: Limited traffic restrictions, with work accessed through manholes. One lane closure at a time will be required, with staging of multiple vehicles.
Road Milling and Resurfacing
Rescheduled: Milling from July 21
Description: The existing layer of asphalt will be scraped off and resurfaced.
Impact: Work will be conducted at night from Sunday to Thursday, with milling and resurfacing done one lane at a time. This section of the project will involve temporary restrictions on street parking and traffic disruptions.
Reinstall Street Light In-Ground Indicators at 9th and 11th Streets
Schedule: To be announced
Description: Existing in-ground indicators will be replaced after the asphalt is milled.
Impact: Temporary road closures at 9th and 11th Streets during the installation of ground indicators.
