[ARCHIVED] Traffic Interruptions Expected on St. Johns Avenue in Downtown Palatka

PAL_02062024_stjohns2

The City of Palatka announces upcoming traffic interruptions on St. Johns Avenue due to projects aimed at enhancing the road's infrastructure and appearance.

Beginning the week of February 5, contractors will inspect City sewer lines between 13th and 16th streets. This work is a precursor to a Putnam County's project, which will rehabilitate and resurface St. Johns Avenue from 11th Street to Palm Avenue. Temporary closures of intersections along St. Johns Avenue may occur, lasting for one to two hours. Every effort will be made to minimize traffic disruptions during this work.

In addition to the sewer line inspections, Florida Power and Light's project will impact traffic this week on St. Johns Avenue. This project involves the replacement of existing streetlights with 118 historically accurate and energy-efficient LED streetlights mounted on 59 new poles. Simultaneously, the project will modernize the underground wiring and infrastructure.

Traffic on St. Johns Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets may be disrupted on Tuesday, while traffic between 7th and 8th Streets could be affected on Wednesday.

This streetlight installation project is a component of a larger multimillion-dollar effort to revitalize St. Johns Avenue in downtown Palatka, encompassing new landscaping, sidewalks, curbs, intersections, and benches.

The lighting project is expected to conclude by the end of the week. For further information, please contact the Public Works Department at (386) 328-0107.
