Hurricane Milton update for Wednesday, October 9, 2024
Due to Hurricane Milton, the business offices of the City of Palatka, the Palatka Police and Fire Departments, and the Palatka Gas Authority are closed. Weather conditions permitting, the offices are expected to reopen for regular business on Monday, October 14.
If you have an emergency, call 911. For non-emergency issues such as fallen trees, flooding during the storm, or other storm-related concerns or questions, residents are asked to call the Putnam County Emergency Management information call center at (386) 329-1904.
As Hurricane Milton approaches, we strongly urge all residents to stay off the roads for their safety. High winds, heavy rain, and flooding make driving extremely dangerous, and emergency services may be limited during the storm. Staying indoors not only protects you but also allows emergency responders to focus on critical situations. Please prioritize your safety and avoid travel until the storm has passed.
Sanitation Update: City crews will collect yard debris from curbside until noon on Wednesday. On Thursday, all residential garbage collection will be suspended. On Friday, weather conditions permitting, residential garbage collection will resume, with crews collecting from customers, who are usually serviced on Thursday. On Saturday, Oct. 12, City crews will collect residential garbage from customers usually serviced on Friday.
The Palatka City Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10 has been postponed.
The project to replace a water main valve that would have affected water service in the Rosa Ragsdale and Sheet Club Road communities has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Oct. 15.
While City offices are closed, the City Police, Firefighters, Public Works, and City Water, Gas, and Sewer services will operate continuously during the storm to serve and protect residents.
Residents are advised to check the City’s website at www.palatka-fl.gov or Putnam County’s website at www.main.putnam-fl.com, and to monitor local media for more information.
