[ARCHIVED] CITY OF PALATKA BAHAMA ISLANDS HURRICANE DISASTER RELIEF

Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 Storm packing sustained winds of 185 mph, has delivered a devastating blow to Grand Bahama and Abaco Islands after stalling over the Bahamas for 2 days.  As many as 13,000 homes were severely damaged or destroyed and 70,000 people are reported homeless. At least 43 people were killed, likely many more. Hundreds are still missing.  Families in the Bahamas are suffering.  

The City of Palatka is collecting Disaster Relief items for shipment to the Bahamas during the week of September 9th through 16th.  Items can be dropped off at the Palatka Police Department, 110 N. 11th Street, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  M - F.  FOR WEEKEND DROP-OFF, call ahead to Central Dispatch at 386-329-0801.  

NEEDS: (Please stick to the items on these lists)

Water, canned goods, manual can openers, mosquito spray, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, diapers, baby formula, wipes, first aid items, cleaning items, leather work gloves, flashlights, batteries, small generators

Also accepted:  Toiletries/hygiene kits, box fans, tents/cots.  

*NO CLOTHES PLEASE*
