City of Palatka officials took center stage in Tallahassee this week to highlight the city’s role in Putnam County and advocate for state support. City Manager Marcia Carty, Commissioners Justin Campbell, Will Jones, Annie Davis, and Rufus Borom, along with former City Commissioner Mary Lawson Brown, represented Palatka at the seventh Rural Counties Day at the Capitol on Wednesday and Thursday. The annual event, founded by former State Rep. Bobby Payne (R-Palatka), showcases the contributions Florida’s 32 rural counties make to the state and encourages collaboration with legislators. Palatka’s leadership joined other county commissioners, Chamber of Commerce representatives, school officials, and more from Putnam County to promote the region’s rural charm and discuss potential state support and funding. Representatives from 29 rural counties attended this year’s gathering, with Putnam County making a strong impression on state leaders.
