City Attorney Jane West Becomes First Woman President of the Putnam County Bar Association
Palatka, FL – November 18, 2025 - The City of Palatka is proud to announce that City Attorney Jane West has been chosen to serve as president of the Putnam County Bar Association, becoming the first woman to hold this role and marking a significant milestone in the organization’s history. A resident of the City of Palatka, West has served as City Attorney for the past two years, bringing a wealth of legal expertise and a deep commitment to public service. She is a distinguished environmental and land use attorney and previously served as Policy & Planning Director for 1000 Friends of Florida, where she advocated for sustainable development and the protection of Florida’s natural resources. West’s legal career includes precedent-setting litigation in both state and federal courts. She is admitted to practice in Florida, Maine, multiple federal districts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Her civic leadership includes roles such as Chair of the City of St. Augustine Beach’s Planning and Zoning Board and Commissioner of the St. Augustine Port, Waterway & Beach Commission. The City of Palatka also extends its sincere gratitude to Alex Sharp, outgoing president of the Putnam County Bar Association, for his years of dedicated service. Sharp, who currently serves as General Counsel to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, has had a distinguished career in law enforcement and prosecution, including his tenure as a 7th Circuit State Prosecutor and his long-standing commitment to public safety and legal integrity in Putnam County.
